As many small dog owners can tell you, some small dogs have an extremely powerful jaw and so you will need to compensate for that by purchasing a little bit bigger dog toy for them than their size would indicate. Otherwise, they will obliterate a toy that does not suite their needs. If you have any experience with a dog and their dog toys, you will know that most dogs tend to have one particular toy that they favor. Let me just say, if this is the case at your house, go buy three more just like it and put them away for future use.
Well, because of the high demand for durable soft dog toys, there are now several manufacturers that make them. These softbutstrong chew toys are made with extra fabric and stitching layers, or made with superstrong materials, or have rubber chew points added. Of course, they are still soft toys so they arent indestructible, but they are a lot stronger than ordinary stuffed animals. So, owners of softdogtoypreferring dogs can be happy that a strong, tough and durable soft dog toy does exist.
An example is a plastic cube with treats inside which the dog must find a way to get out of the cube. The cube is also adjustable, so as your dog figures out how to get the treats out, you can make it harder so he wont get bored. Another example of this type of dog toys is a rubber ball that helps clean your pets teeth when he plays with it. Your dog bites the slits in the ball. His teeth sink into the grooves. The grooves stimulate the gums and clean the teeth, and dispense treats or kibble for your pet.
However, dog toys made with a material that is both durable but still soft, are the perfect alternative. A good example of this type of material is West Paw Designs exclusive material Zogoflex. The material is non toxic, earth friendly and their dog toys are made in the U.S.A. Many canine owners say that toys made with Zogoflex are more durable and longer lasting than Kong dog toys. What About Powerful Chewers Who Only Like to Chew on Soft Dog Toys?
They are made of inferior quality materials and they never last. They also often pose potential dangers such as choking hazards because they tend to fall apart easily. Besides, a toy that doesnt last long is just a waste of your time and money and a disappointment to your dog. If you are picking out a dog toy for smaller dogs or a growing puppy, make sure to choose a toy that is soft and easier to chew and of course in the smaller category. Do not buy toys that have small pieces that could come loose or break off. Again, these are choking hazards and remember, puppies are big chewers.
