Its just a different style of play. Some dogs like to nurture and some dogs enjoy playing by exercising their prey drive. Its all fun and nobody gets hurt except the toy. If you have one of the dogs who likes to exercise his jaws and eviscerate toys then you may go through a lot of toys. Most toys are not designed to hold up to these toykillers. Soft rubber toys, squeaky toys and stuffed animals will all come apart fairly quickly when a dog really wants to destroy them.
Choosing a toy that will suit your dog can sometimes be decided on their breed and size, buying a huge ball for a very small dog will be pointless. You should also only ever give your dog proper dog toys as these are safe for animals. Dog toys will not splinter and they are non toxic, if you think that any element of your new toy is unsafe then cut off string or tags to ensure your dog is safe. You and your dog will benefit from you purchasing dog toys; it will mean that you get up and active while playing with your dog.
Be sure to pick a bone that fits your dogs size and chewing abilities to avoid choking incidents. If your dog does not finish the bone during their chewing session, pick it up and put it away for another day. Comfort toys develop when a dog is young and dealing with separation anxiety from their mother to a new home but many dogs do not outgrow their comfort toys. However, this type of toy still offers benefits to an adult dog. If you have to travel to unfamiliar places, leave them with a sitter, or vet for a few days, they offer your dog a feeling of comfort and have a reassuring effect.
