Gabriela Tucker. Dog Toys. February 22nd , 2018.
If you have a pooch who refuses to chew on any type of hard or medium type of dog toy, you are not alone. Theres a ton of finicky dogs out there who just dont find any sort of chewing satisfaction in chewing on hard chew toys they just dont like the way these type of toys feel on their teeth and gums. But, whats the alternative besides those cheapo, ripemapartinasecond stuffed animals?
As many small dog owners can tell you, some small dogs have an extremely powerful jaw and so you will need to compensate for that by purchasing a little bit bigger dog toy for them than their size would indicate. Otherwise, they will obliterate a toy that does not suite their needs. If you have any experience with a dog and their dog toys, you will know that most dogs tend to have one particular toy that they favor. Let me just say, if this is the case at your house, go buy three more just like it and put them away for future use.
Always make sure that you buy bigger toys rather than smaller ones. Toys will last longer if your dog cant get the entire toy in his mouth. Just because your dog destroys stuffies and toys with squeakers doesnt mean he doesnt like them. On the contrary. He probably really loves them a lot. Unfortunately, you probably dont enjoy buying them so your dog can rip them apart in a few seconds. Do consider sewing them back up for your dog. He wont mind. You can also buy second hand stuffed animals at your local Goodwill for less than a dollar.
An example is a plastic cube with treats inside which the dog must find a way to get out of the cube. The cube is also adjustable, so as your dog figures out how to get the treats out, you can make it harder so he wont get bored. Another example of this type of dog toys is a rubber ball that helps clean your pets teeth when he plays with it. Your dog bites the slits in the ball. His teeth sink into the grooves. The grooves stimulate the gums and clean the teeth, and dispense treats or kibble for your pet.
Jolly balls or large toy balls for horses can make good toy balls for dogs. These balls are big and they are tough enough for horses to play with so it seems impossible for dogs to destroy them. Hard plastic Nylabones are durable and virtually impossible for a dog to destroy. They can survive nearly anything. These are the nonedible Nylabones as opposed to the edibles. In general, if you are looking for indestructible dog toys, look for hard rubber and hard plastic toys. These toys hold up much better to destructive dogs than toys designed for gentler play.
